29 September 2016 - Hosted by the European Commission, the meeting had the objective to map the activities of the European Commission in the field of migrants and refugees’ health and to discuss the competences and activities of the Health Security Committee on migrant health.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the European Commission DG SANTE, HOME and ECHO, ECDC as well as delegates of MoH from EU Member States, WHO and UNHCR. The meeting also provided the ground to present the experience of Member States in addressing the health needs of migrants and refugees in their respective territories.
IOM MHD RO Brussels was invited to present on the health challenges and needs of migrants and refugees with the findings and the experience with the two IOM/EC Direct grant agreements Equi-Health and Re-Health, the latter with the development of the E-Personal Health Record (E-PHR) and its platform as well as recent updates on project implementation activities in Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia.
The EU Health Security Committee, set up in 2001 at the request of EU Health Ministers and represented by Member States health authorities, which mandate was strengthened with the adoption of the EU cross border Directive, is an advisory group on health security at EU level with the purpose of reinforcing coordination and sharing of best practices and information on national activities and responses on public health emergencies and cross border threats.
